The U3A Movement

The Universities of the Third Age (U3A) are democratic, self-funding, mutual self-help and support organisations. There are no age limits, neither upper nor lower, as the membership is for anyone who is moving from, or has already moved from, full-time occupation (family or work).

The members provide all types of educational, creative and leisure activities for themselves and their fellow members, with opportunities to learn and have fun in all activities. This is done at minimum cost by making use of the knowledge, skills and time of the members, freely given. The main emphasis is on participation.

There are over 1000 U3As in the UK and the number is increasing all the time. Please visit our Welcome and our About Us pages for more information. Also, the Third Age Trust National Office website has useful information, including advice sheets and a range of resources. You can find the link to their website by clicking the "Links" button in the left-hand menu.
